Great!

Having missed a few records of the species since moving down to Pulborough, it was nice to at last find my first patch Great White Egret in front of West Mead at dawn today, shining like a beacon in the early morning sun. It sat for a while in this spot, at considerable distance - hence the awful phonescope shots - before flying a short distance and down into a ditch, hidden from view.

What was surely the same bird turned up later in the day on a private lake in the village, found by Gary Trew.

If only it could have shown as well as this extroverted Little Egret at Winpenny!
Other bits of note from my brief visit this morning were two singing Chiffchaffs at Fattengates and two Curlews which were very vocal as they did a couple of circuits over the Mid Brooks before coming down in front of Winpenny.
